Cream Cheese Icing
8 oz. cream cheese*
1 c. confectioner’s sugar
1 Tbsp milk
This is not complicated. Just stir all of this together and you’ll have icing. Add more milk if you want to drizzle the icing rather than spread it.
Orange Icing
8 oz. cream cheese*
1 c. confectioner’s sugar
1 Tbsp milk
1/4 to 1/2 tsp orange extract
6 drops yellow food coloring (optional)
2 drops red food coloring (optional)
Again, just stir all of this together and you’ll have icing. Adjust the milk and extract amounts to your preference (obviously start with the lesser amounts). Have fun with the food coloring if you decide to use it – the combo listed results in a peachy-orange color.
Check Go Dairy Free for non-dairy cream cheese substitutes if you are dairy or casein free.
If you’re allergic to food coloring as I am, there is a great web site to get all natural food dyes from! Go to chocolatecraftkits.com and they have food dyes and all kinds of naturally dyed chocolates too! I got some red for red velvet cake and they sent me a sample of orange as well (red comes out funny apparently when baking so they suggested adding some orange to brighten it in cooking). It turned out great! Just a suggestion.
Thank you Renee!
