A Gluten Free Christmas: Gingerbread House

My son was flipping through my copy of Joy of Cooking a couple of months ago and came upon the recipe for a Gingerbread House. He was captivated! We read the entire recipe and instructions for his bedtime story that night =)

I do my best to keep all gluten out of my house, so David and I set out to make a gluten free gingerbread house. From scratch. It was a great project…and all of our kids ended up participating in some way or the other…even the 1 yr old. =)

In this cooking class, you’ll learn how to make a gluten free Gingerbread House of your own.

To get started, download the files below. You may either download a zip file that contains all of the class contents, or download each individual .pdf file separately. Instructions for how to open a zip file can be found on our Customer Service page.

Where To Start:
Open up the Gingerbread House Class file and start by reading through the articles – especially the Gingerbread House primer. After that you can either begin gathering your materials, or watch the video which is about 25 minutes long. The password for the video is on the Class Table of Contents page right after the link to the video.

Be sure to give yourself plenty ot time to make your Gingerbread House. It’s a process to enjoy – not one to rush through. And have fun! Especially if you’re baking with little ones. Let them enjoy the time with you, even if everything else doesn’t turn out perfectly.

I think that’s all that I needed to tell you. Have a Merry Christmas and thank you for letting Gluten Free Cooking School be a small part of it.

Hi Mary, In the directions for the ginger bread house you mention coconut oil in the explanation but not in the ingredients list. Wanted to know if you can successfully use coconut oil or does it have to be dairy free butter for those allergic to dairy. Thanks
